Maldives The Villa

In my first entry about our trip, I did mention I’d talk about the villa we stayed in. There are generally three kinds of accomodation we had to make a choice amongst, and they are Land Villas, Water Villa and the Jacuzzi Water Villa. AS loves Jacuzzis for some reason and I like the idea of a deck. But initially I thought a normal land villa would suffice, since I’m no swimmer.

In the end we decided to go to the Jacuzzi Water Villa. AS said it’s not THAT much difference in price as compared to the Water Villa which he wanted to stay in. In a way we chose our resort based on the availability of the Jacuzzi Water Villa. The other 4* resorts didn’t have anything like that. (Or rather the tour agency didn’t offer anything even if they did perhaps because they were too new or something)

So here is an aerial view of our resort and we stay on the curve at the right, just where the central walkway is. (this is taken from the official site)

The tip of the leaf-shaped cluster of resort are the presidential suites and honeymoon suites. The Presidential suites can accomodate up to 4 persons instead of the usual 2. On the right of the above picture are the Water Villas. We’re not sure if they have jacuzzis but I thought they didn’t. Here’s a picture of them from my Villa’s deck.

And here’s the route we always take to our villa. Ours would be on the left of the roundabout. If you noticed, there’s a hut in the middle of the cluster. That’s where the cleaning guys are (nope, not cleaning ladies).

If you note, each villa has ‘two roofs’. Actually one belongs to the bedroom and the other is the bathroom. The deck is adjoined between the two so you have access to the deck from both the bed and bath rooms. The bedroom is a simple with with an airconditioner, as well as a ceiling fan, a sofa, tea table, bedside tables, a desk, tea and cups and glass and of course a tv and a cd player too. It’s just nice and everything is ‘within reach’. I really felt more ready to go out and hit the beach while staying here than anywhere else because really, everything is just ‘within reach’. Here you can see a picture of our villa taken in the morning some meters away from the deck.

The villas are constructed in such a way that you won’t be able to peep at your neighbor.

The only way you can do that I guess is when you’re canoeing out at sea and usually the canoeists (?) would be out in the late afternoons. So my take is, if you want to sunbathe on your deck nude, please remember people canoe around that time.

Oh and how do we sunbathe? There are deck chairs on the deck, and there’s also another table, and two proper chairs. We had one of our lunches there – on the third day i think.

To be honest I didn’t really sunbathe. I only sat in the pool long enough to be darkened enough so that i have a ‘hi-i-just-had-a-beach-holiday’ look.

Here’s another look from the deck of our villa

We can really see the sun rise, see the sun set, the waves… see the moon glowing over the waves…

AND the Jacuzzi. AS likes to sit in it and read in the early mornings and late afternoons. While yours truly prefers the night so that I can see sights like the above picture. It’s amazing how the moonlight highlights the waves coming from afar and even though it’s too dark to read, I sit mesmerized by the sight. I must add that the skies in Maldives are awfully clear and you can see so many stars you start to wonder if you’re in space. If you happen to be at the jetty in the night, you really feel like you’re enclosed in a cavern of stars.

Anyways, we really spent enough time reading – something we couldn’t really afford to do so much back home. Initially I wanted to show you this picture to tell you how we enjoyed reading at the deck, and enjoying the sea breeze, and also the funny incident involving us having a very loud conversation about the book AS was reading and not knowing that there was a guest next door trying to fish – obviously we scared the fishes away. …. – but…

Just look at the clouds.
